I installed the Mail Art exhibition today at the 407 Gallery (University of Wisconsin-Green Bay Campus, Studio Arts Building 407) You can see it there through November 1st.

Thank you to all the Mail artists who sent me something for this show--I really appreciate it! If you sent me something within the last month, you should be getting something in the mail from me soon!

It took me about 4 hours to install it, with the help of my friend Elana (thanks Elana!!)
Will be back with pics of the installation soon.

I will be sending out a list of participants to all of those involved. Included will be addresses, expect for those who have requested not to have their address listed. If you are part of this show and you DO NOT want your address listed, please let me know right away. Also let me know if you have changed your address since our last correspondence!

The show looks great and it has been a lot of fun. I am still open to trading Mail Art with anyone. It will then be on display in my office in The Eclipse Gallery on a rotating basis, or in my home if I really like it! Maybe a future themed show will come into being someday...

I do believe he is the most prolific mail artist.

What do you think about his statement--"Mail art has the potential equal to painting as an art form"? It's somewhat like comparing apples and oranges. But Mail Art surpasses painting in some ways--it's more social for one thing. And not only does the artist have the freedom to create with minimal rules, but the artist receives almost guaranteed compensation from trading with other Mail artists.

I was speaking with a Mail artist the other day who has been participating since the 60's. He thinks it's a shame that museums overlook the Mail art movement. It's starting to be taken a little more seriously at least. But you don't see much, if anything, about Mail Art in the major art history books.

Personally, I can't believe how much my life has improved since I started participating in Mail Art. What could be better than receiving art in your mailbox for free? Or being able to freely express yourself without judgment? Or making friends with artists from around the world? As busy as I am, I always find the time for Mail art. I'm sure my friends and family are getting sick of me pushing them into doing Mail art! But I want everybody to be as happy with their mailboxes as I am! I finally got my mom convinced. She said she will be sending me a postcard soon.

It might take me a little while for me to send you something back since I'm uber busy right now, but once things slow down a little I will make it up to you!

3-D Mail Art from Richard Canard

Of course right after I posted about Richard the other day, I went to my mailbox and encountered this! Isn't it wonderful? Yes it is a wooden spoon, mailed as is without any packaging. The challenge now, for me, is how to display this effectively.
The Mail Art Exhibition will have to be touchy feeley.

He gives me my daily doses of inspiration, humor, or slight confusion.

I love this postcard from Carlos Botana. I will have to get out my Spanish-English dictionary to read his little note. If only I were multi-lingual I would be a happy girl. Unfortunately, I have absolutely zero language learning aptitude.

I absolutely adore this little book (aptly named Rag Doll Zine) from Jennifer Zoellner. Posted here are only a few of the delightful pages. It was so nice to get this on a day when I was uber stressed out. Thanks Jennifer!

This will be a great edition to my upcoming Mail Art Exhibition. There is still time to send me something to be included, and a 3-D piece will be featured on its own little pedastal. Not to mention that you will get something 3-D back from me (eventually...) I can't wait!
